About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Visa Duration Of Stay

Dear community,

My girlfriend will be entering China on 24th December 2015.
The duration of stay on her entry permit is 31 days.
She will be leaving PRC on 24th January.

Is it correct that she will not overstay, as the duration of stay is counted from the day after she arrives (the 31st and final day is therefore Jan 24th)?

Max, are you sure that the allowed duration of stay is 31 days? I'm afraid it should be 30 days. I never heard that the embassy issues an entry permit with a duration of stay of 31 days.

Anyway, the duration of stay is counted from the day after she arrives. So if the number of days is 30, she should leave on 23rd January. If you are sure that the number is 31, she should leave on 24th January.

Dear Helen,

Thanks for your reply. Yes the number of days is 31 because the visa centre made some sort of mistake and initially only gave my girlfriend 30 days which would not have been enough.
I do not understand though why she was not given 40 days, that's what you usually get if you stay for more than 30 days I thought.
Anyway, as long as the duration of stay is definitely counted from the day AFTER arrival, then she will not have any problems.
It is just that I have heard from a few people that it is counted from the day you enter and I was starting to get a bit worried.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's weird that she was given 31 days. The embassy usually gives a stay duration of 45 days if 30 days are not enough. Whatever, you don't need to worry about it and she can leave on 24th January without problems. I'm sure that the stay duration is counted from the day after arrival.
