About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72hr visa with return ticket to original country?

I am going to visit a friend in Shanghai, can I buy a return ticket (Seoul - Shanghai - Seoul) and still take advantage of the 72 hour free transit? Also, does this transit permit allow me to leave the airport?

Hello, Thomas, the 72 hour policy is not applicable to your route because you fly back to the departure country after a transit in Shanghai. But the regulation states that one should fly to a third country or region after transiting in a Chinese city.

Anyway, next time, if you are eligible for the 72hrs free transit program, you can leave the airport. Just for your information.
