How to address a girl named Chin Qui

I'm an author who's written a western historical that takes place in 1852. One of my characters is a young Chinese girl whom I have named Chin Qui. Everyone refers to her as Chin Qui throughout the book. Now my editor is asking if this is correct. Would a friend address her as just "Qui"?

Shirley, so her family is Chin and Qui is her given name? If so, it's ok to call a person's given name if you are very familiar and close to him/her.
