buy bullet ticket on the spot

Question

After arriving in Shenzhen I am not sure when I will travel by bullet to Xiamen (sight see a  few days in Xiamen) and return.  Can I buy the ticket on the day I decide to travel.  Can I also buy return trip open dated.   Please advise.

It is Ok to buy it on spot as well the return trip. The railway will just add another CNY5 as their service fee for the return trip.
