Help! Single entry visa but flying HK to Shanghai and to UK

Hi, I have entered Shenzhen on a single entry permit but now have to fly HK to Shanghai then home to UK in less than 72hours.

Would I be eligible for the 72h free transit? We would be staying at a hotel.

If so how do we apply is this at the airport?

I fly tomorrow so I would appreciate someone's help.
Thanks

Yes, you are eligible for the 72 hour free transit. You need to inform the airlines when boarding and you will fill an arrival/departure card on the flight. Upon getting off, you will be led to the 72-hour free transit counter through a special lane and you need to present your passport and air tickets. After that, you can leave the airport.
