China 72 Hour Transit Visa?

I intend to travel from Qatar to Hong kong for a few days then fly to Shanghai and obtain a 72 hour transit permit and hopefully visit the great wall of China, and then depart Shanghai and fly to Abu Dhabi and back to Qatar.
Is it possible to obtain the 72 hour free transit for this purpose?

Dear, if you want to use the 72h free transit policy, you can only transit in one mainland Chinese city. That means you can either transit in Shanghai or Beijing, but not the two cities both. So if you would like to visit the Great Wall, please select a fight that stops over in Beijing rather than Shanghai.

ok so if I transit in Beijing instead of Shanghai, it will then be possible to visit the Great Wall on the free transit? The reason I must use Shanghai is for the return flight so I can always catch an internal flight from Beijing to Shanghai anyway.

Yes, if you only transit in Beijing, you can use the 72h free transit and it's possible to visit the Great Wall during the layover time.
