About:China Visa Application in USA

I will be visiting Hong Kong in December and would like to make a short trip to Shanghai

I will be staying in Hong Kong but would like to make a short visit to Shanghai (3-4 days). I haven't arranged the trip yet. Do I have to have the arrangements made and the dates confirmed before getting a visa?

Hello, Ralph. If someone can provide you with an invitation letter, then you don't have to arrange the trip in advance. Otherwise, you need to have the arrangements made because when you apply for the entry permit, you need to submit your itinerary including your round trip air tickets and hotel reservations.
