Cable car to West Peak, overnight and cable car down North peak? How difficult is that in winter?

Hi,

Planning to visit Huashan in mid December. From Xian take the train to Huashan (late morning), bus to town centre, bus to cable car West Peak to catch the sunset. Overnight at West Peak. Next morning, maybe sunrise in the East (I heard it can be watched from the North Peak), then cable car down.
Will the weather permit it as it can be very cold so early in the morning? Does it snow up there and will it be safe to hike then?
How long will it take to hike from West to East peak or North Peak?
Should I do West, East and then North peak -how long would that take?
Many thanks in advance for your advice!

West Peak is the best place to see sunset and East Peak is the best place to view sunrise. The sunrise can be also watched from the North Peak. It is very cold in winter and the temperature may drop to minus ten degrees in the evening or early morning on the mountain top. If it snows, some dangerous passes like plank walk may be closed by then but it would not affect the normal hiking. It takes about 40 minutes to one hour from West Peak to East Peak and takes about more than one hour from West Peak to North Peak. It depends on your own pace. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. Can one trek from west peak straight to north peak cable car? How long would that take? I guess not many people would be trying to see the sunrise in winter? Or we can expect to see a lot of people? Would it be dangerous in the dark before sunrise and taking into consideration the cold weather too? (maybe i am too ambitious)

It takes around one hour from West Peak to North Peak without stop or sightseeing en route and takes about 20 minutes from North Peak to the cable car. It will be very cold in the early winter morning on the mountain, so I guess not many people would be trying to see the sunrise in such cold weather. It is not very dangerous to walk from West Peak to East Peak as the paths are all steps with hand rail. In fact, it is not suggested to climb the mountain in winter, but if you have to do it, please make sure to take warm clothes and slow down your pace if it snows. By the way, do not forget to take flashlight if you walk in the dark.
