what options visa wise would i be able to apply for?

i have a girlfriend of 5 years in China whom i plan to marry in 12 months. i have visited her once on a single entry permit. I would like to go back and spend as much of the 12 months with her. i would be willing to leave for a day or 2 at a time to comply with multiple entry requirements

Since you two haven't been married, then I think you can only apply for multiple entrye L type. However, I am not sure if you will be approved for sure. The consular officers finally decide whether a single, double or multiple one will be issued. To apply for the L type, you'd better ask her to send you an invitation letter. In this way, you needn't be bothered by round-trip air tickets and hotel reservation.
