Transit visa required or not?

Hi, I am traveling on China Southern from USA to Malaysia via Guangzhou (4hr transit) and have a return to US also via Guangzhou (4 hr transit). I am a Malaysian citizen w/ passport. I am a student in the US with F1 entry permit. Do I need a PRC transit permit?
