About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

flying from US and direct back to US

I am interested in flying to Shanghai for the day / overnight, for a mileage run to solidify status on my airline. Does this fall under the 72 hour visa?

Matt, as you fly from US and direct back to US, the route is not valid transit, which disqualifies you for the 72-hour free transit. If you want to use this policy, you can stop over in Hong Kong or some other countries on your way back.
