About:Tipping in China

Is this correct? How much should we tip?

We are a group of 18 inclusive of two small children aged 9 and 13. Planning a 4day trip. We are expected to pay RMB500 per person for tips for the guide and driver. this will amount to RM500 x 18pax = RMB9000!!!

Is this ethical?

Sophia, tourists are suggested to give CNY 10 to 70 per day as tips. You tip them according to their service. If you are satisfied with their service, you can give a bit more. If not, you don't need to give them too much. I think CNY 125 per day is enough.

Sophia, it's just my advice. There is no standard for how much you should tip. It's your choice. However, this website a travel one. They suggest that 10 to 70 RMB a day per person is adequate. I think that you can do as they said.
