23 hour layover in Kunming..from 1am to 11.40pm...can some one please help to plan these 23 hour?Tnk

Hi， Ish！In order to visit the important places very conveniently, you may stay in downtown area and I know one near metro station - Long Way Hotel, at no. 299 on Chuncheng Road. It will cost around CNY 400 for a night.

You may take airport express route 6 from the airport, get off at the railway station. Then transfer to subway line 1, get off at Fude Station, and leave from Exit C. Afterwards, walk south for 219 yards (200 meters), and you will find the hotel.

If you want to go shopping of clothes, you can go to the Zhengyi Road. You can reach there by bus line 68, and get off at Nanpingjie Dongkou Station.

You can get Chinese currency in the airport or at many banks, such as Bank of China, Bank of Communications, and Agricultural Bank of China.

I adivise you to stay in the Dianchi Hotel by the beautiful Dianchi Lake. You may take airport express line 5, and get off at the hotel. It is very convenient for you to tour around. It costs CNY25 and takes around an hour.

I had one query regarding my luggage -
My trip is SFO,USA ->Shanghai ->KM ->India
1. I am hearing that I have to pull my luggage at KM (I thought it would have been a through checkin from SFO to India but sadly its not...Am I correct?)
As such please suggest how to take care of the luggages (I dont prefer to take them to hotel unnecessary).
a : Will I be able to check in the luggage for my next flight there itself (during the 23hr layover start) as all the flights are operated by ChinaEastern only?
b : If not, the airport luggage storage option details - price, safety.
Note : I will arrive at 1am and next flight is at 23:55 pm.

Yes, you are correct! You have to pull your luggage, and I heard it can be checked in only three hours before departure.

Your luggage can be stored at the left-lugagge counter, which is located near the crew passage to the west of departure hall on 3F, and at the counter by the domestic exit to the west of greeting hall on B1. If you deposit it for less than 4 hours, CNY 5 will be charged for every piece. CNY 10 will be charged each piece if you store it for more than 4 hours. But I am not sure if it is hourly rate. And it is very safe. You needn't worry about it. Just have fun. :)

PS. I am not sure if the left-lugagge counter is still open upon your arrival. It is suggested to dial 86-0871-96566 to consult the airport in advance.

Could you please also suggest how/fromwhere to get the CNY currency from my US dollars - Is it worth to get it from SFO airport or Sanghai airport or directly at changshui airport? I wish I so not end up paying 20$ fee for conversion ..(someone told me this)...please suggest...
