yvr-pvg-kmg-cmb. is visa required?

Question

Canadian passport, from Vancouver, flight has 4.5hours layover in Shanghai flying same day to Kunming with 15 hour layover before going to Sri Lanka. Want to go to hotel in Kunming for the 15 hours. Do I need a visa since Kunming is the second city to land in China.

Ivana, if your total transit (from the moment you arrive in Shanghai until you leave Kunming) is less than 24 hours, then you needn't apply one in advance because you are qualified for 24 hours free transit. In this case, you need to apply for the stay permit when you reach Shanghai first.
