About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Ams-Dubai-Shanghai-Dubai-Amsterdam

Am I able to apply for a 72-hour transit when I fly from Amsterdam to Dubai, then from Dubai to Shanghai and back and fly from Dubai back to Amsterdam.

No. The country to depart has to be different than the one you arrived from. I tried this doing Seoul-Beijing-Seoul and they would not let me board the flight in Seoul until I changed my ticket.
