About:China Visa Application in USA

visa for attending Canton Fair

I am a US citizen with a valid passport, and I am going to attend the Import/Export Fair in Canton from Oct. 16-18/2015. Since my stay is less than 72 hours, do I still need an entry prmit to enter China?

VH, it depends on your travel route and transportation method. If you fly from the US to Canton and then to a third country or region, you don't need the entry permit as you are eligible for the 72h free transit.

I am going from US to Vietnam first, then to Canton attending the Fair for 2 days then back to Vietnam before returning to the US. Would this situation still requires a Chinese entry permit?

In this case, you should apply for a M type for your visit. The invitation letter from the Canton Fair Organization is required.
