train from Beijing to Shaghai for 2 on Friday 25th Sept.

do we need to book in advance?
are seats reserved?
How long before do we need to be at station?

It would be better if you book it in advance or at least not on the day of travel. They may sold out sometimes. The seats assigned at the time of issuing. It would be safer if you get there 90min in advance, but if you already have the paper tickets, around 40min would be OK.
