About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour free stay

Me and my bf are flying from Ho Chi Minh City > to Hong Kong (no stop over) > Shanghai. We have a overnight period in Shanghai and are hoping to celebrate new year there.

I thought we would be able to get a 72 hour free stay, but it says that you cannot be eligible if you have just come from or are going to another city in China.

What visa do I need? So confused!

Hi Bridie, after you visit Shanghai, will you fly to a third country? If yes, you can enjoy the 72-hour free stay. It's right that you can't stay in two or more Chinese cities when using this policy, but the cities here refer to cities of mainland PRC because HK has different immigration regulations.

Thanks for your help! Yes on New Years Day we fly back to England, so I will have all my travel documents with me.
