Different qualities of clothing cost differently. You surely need to be aware of the low quality products which can be found in Silk Market in Beijing, and Qipilu in Shanghai. When buying things in the two places, do bargain for a reasonable price. In addition, Yashow Market in Beijing, and Nanjing Road in Shanghai are good choices for clothing shopping.

Living in Shanghai for 10 years now, I usually shop for clothes at the Super Brand Mall in Lujiazui. They have Gap, H&M, Zara, C&A, and Uniqlo. Basically, I would not trust the quality of items sold at the markets. If you have time, you can get clothes made at Nanpu Fabric Market on the Puxi side, or at the underground Science and Technology area in Pudong.
