residence permit expiration

Question

Hi,My residence permit will expire in September 20th 2015, and my employer doesn't want to renew it even thou I have a contract with the school until December 2015, so they are forcing me to switch to other type of visa or to quit  and they don't want to give me a release letter . What are my options ? How long can I stay in China after the expiration ? Can I apply for tourist type in Beijing ?I do have working Z type and working permit.Thanks a lot.Marina

Marina, it's illegal to work under other types rather than Z. Without the release letter, it's difficult for you to find a new employer. But you still can try to get another tourist type from Beijing Entry and Exit Management Bureau. Usually you can get a L type with the duration of 30 days. It means that you can still stay in PRC for another month after your current resident permit expires.
