Brian, I was told that CDMA was much popular in Zambia. Unicom sim card is WCDMA mode. It can be only used in some areas of Northern Zambia. My advice is that you buy another local sim card in Zambia. It's much cheaper. Otherwise, you will pay a large amount of money for international romaing fee if you use Unicom sim card.

Brian, if you can burden the expensive phone calls, text message and internet access fees, then you can use a Chinese sim card in Zambia. As I said, CDMA and WCDMA are available there. China Mobile just provides GSM service internationally. If you plan to use a Chinese sim card, then China Telecom should be your choice. However, I still suggest you confirm this with the staff when you buy the sim card.

If you use Chinese sim card, you need to solve another issue. Where and how do you recharge if you run out?
