first time work visa in china

Hello, If I were to be applying for my first work Z type in China, do I need to spend it back to my home country or can I get it processed in a city like Guangzhou or Hong Kong? I am currently on a business M type and would like to get it converted to a Z type.     -Katie

Katie, it's possible to change the M type to a Z type within mainland. If you can't do it successfully, you should go back to your country and apply for the Z type. You can't send your passport back to ask someone to get the Z type for you while you are in China.
