About:Mid-Autumn Festival

I have several new-to-USA Chinese students in my class. What is best way to acknowledge holiday?

Is there a simple recipe for small mooncakes that i might make and the US students might like too? Do you say Happy Autumn Festival?
Thank you!

Trish, I am afraid that it's too complicated to make moon cakes on your own. I think you might buy some at the supermarkets or China Town. Yes, you can say "Happy Autmn Festival". You know, Chinese people usually reunite together during this festival. think the students in your class might miss their families on that day. Perhaps, you might have a small party together to celebrate the festival. Your sincerity will surely make them feel at home.

There are many recipes online and a friend showed me how to make these. They really are not that complicated. Remember that millions of Chinese also make them at home. You may also try the icing moon cakes. The U.S. Children would probably like them better. The name is misleading because it is not made of icing and is not iced. :)

I made 4 cakes yesterday. It took me maybe 2 hours, very easy if you're patient. My dough dried out pretty quickly which made it a little more challenging. I don't have a mold, so I used a small bowl instead and etched designs on the top.

I found the red bean paste and lye water at my local Asian market.
