About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Work VISA Duration

I have been offered a teaching job with a school and am about to apply for Z-type and just waiting for the employer's official paper work by post to arrive any day now. The contract is initially for one year and renewable by mutual agreement.

What length of Z type should I apply for? One entry 3 months
or Multiple entries 1 year?

I understand I have to apply for temporary residence within 30 days of entry as an employee, anyway. Does that automatically give me to multiple entries for one and I only need to one entry 3 months one?

Ali, Z type is a single entry one only valid for 30 days. If you acquire the Z type, you need to come as soon as you can and change your Z into temporary resident permit within 30 days. The length of your resident permit is up to your contract. Since your contract is one year long, I think you are likely to get one year temporary residetn permit. As long as the permit is valid, you can leave and enter mainland many times as you can.

The application for doesn't have any type but Travel Purpose which one of which is Work. Is there a different form for Z type as there is no option in the Duration for 30 days. The minimum is 3 months single entry. Thank you.

Ali, it's illegal to work under other types rather than a Z. If you were found out, you would have been punished severely. I doubt if the school is capable of recruiting foreign teachers. If they are, they should get appropriate entry permit Z type for teachers like you.

They are sending me by express post the work permit and asked me to prepare my papers and wait for the papers in the post. Once I receive them what should I do please. I thought I have to apply via the Chinese Embassy and the only application form doesn't give types but rather visit purpose and expected length of stay. The minimum type is 3 months single entry. Is that what I should choose or is there a different form. Also the Chinese centre telling me it is faster by post to Edinburgh than in person in London. I don't want the form be delayed for simple errors. Thank you :)

OMG! I finally realized that you talked about the application form. If you got the work permit, then you should apply for the Z type. In section 2.1, you should choose Work. In section 2.2, you choose "One entry valid for 3 months from the date of issue". It doesn't matter because most applicants got their Z type with the validity of 90 days. And duration of stay is "000", meaning that you need to change it into resident permit within 30 days after you arrive.
