About:China Tourist Visa

How do I get a Tourist Visa for my families?

I have been to China many times for business purposes and now I want to take my family as tourists. From which dept. in China should I apply for a tourist type if we are travelling on our own and not through a travel agency.

Keerthie, I am afraid that you may not apply for L type successfully on your own. According to Chinese embassy, invitation letter from Chinese Tourist Bureau is required. It's a must. But it's difficult for individuals to acquire this.

Thank you Kevin. Yes , I went through this bad experience. However when I checked with my Chinese friend and on checking with the China Tourist Board they had said that they do not issue such documents.
Now I am trying to go through a tour operator.

Have you applied through the embassy?Because some sites say hotel res is enough?Does that mean visa will reject with the paymnets?
