Visa required to visit downtown Hong Kong?

Hi If i am in transit from from South Africa to Australia and i am stopping over in Hong Kong for 12 hours waiting time before taking my next flight to Australia:
1) can i visit downtown Hong Kong without a Hong Kong Visa?
2) what exciting things are there to do in the 12 hours of waiting time as i have never been to HK?
3) and can you please give me an idea of costs associated with these activities

Many thanks, Rachel

Yes, you can go to the downtown area for a visit. If you hold South African passport, you enjoy 30 days free stay there. You need to spare at least 4 hours for getting back from the downtown area and boarding the plane. So you actuall just have around 7 hours for a visit. I think you might go to the Victoria Peak for a visit. You can take airport express line to Hong Kong Station. A round-trip costs HKD 180. Then you can catch a taxi to the cable car terminal. It costs around HKD 20 to 30. The cable car costs HKD40 for a round trip. When you reach the peak, you can have a grand view of the whole HK if weather is good. Besides, you can visit Madame Tussauds if you like. It costs HKD245.
