Well, of course taking the direct flight is the fastest and easiest way for you.
But it's not the most economical one.
You can also take high-speed train from Hongqiao Railway Station, get off at Guangzhou South Railway Station. It takes 7 to 8 hours on the way. The ticket fare of first class seat is CNY1302.5 and second class seat is CNY793.

Flying is not always such a great way to travel domestically. There is a luggage limit and limits on what you take, and the rules conflict from one airport to another. There are LONG lines to get thru security, control, and boarding. Flights are often delayed. Plus airports are usually on the outskirts of the city, so travel to the city takes time.0

Note that booking well in advance will get the lowest rate. The rates go up the closer you get your departure date. Also rates sharply increase during national holidays. It can also be costly to re-schedule your flight.0
