Hello
I am travelling from Japan to Delhi via Shanghai on China Eastern. Ihave 12 hours of layover, and i would like to visit Shanghai.
1)Do i need to apply before for the direct transit type? can get it at the Shanghai Immigration?
2)If I get the direct transit type, do i need to collect my checkin luggage or airline will transfer it to next flight?

Viky, you needn't apply for any transit type before you arrive. As for your baggage, it depends on your airline companies. If you fly with the same airline, your baggage is usually transferred to next stop. If you fly with two different airlines, then it depends on whether they have an agreement that your baggage can be transferred by next airline company.
