USA to HK direct for 10 days but want to travel to Beijing for 2 days - need visa?

HK - Beijing - HK. Will the trip to Beijing qualify for the free 72 hour transit?

HK - Beijing - HK doesn´t qualify for the 72h twov.
If you leave Beijing, you must have a flight to a 3rd country.
