Can I switch my visa while I am in China?

I currently have my student type/temporary resident permit until the December 2015. However, I would like to travel around past that date. What should I do?

Before your current resident permit expires, please go to local entry and exit management bureau to change your student type into a temporary L type. You have to submit your application at least seven working days before your current one expires. It's likely that you will be granted with a 30 days L type.
