About:China Tourist Visa

How far in advance can you apply for a tourist visa?

I read somewhere 3 months? I am travelling for 3 and a half months and China is my second last stop. If it is 3months, how would I apply as i wont be in my country of residence, will most likely be in India. Are you required to send away your passport? I also wont have my full itinerary confirmed, I will only know my entry date and won't have a return flight booked as I am taking the ferry to japan? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Amy, the tourist type is usually valid for three months, so you can't apply ealier than three months. You are suggested to do the application in other countries during your trip. In addition, the return ticket is a must when apply for the tourist L type. So you need to book the ferry ticket before submitting application.
