Duration of Stay in China

The remarks at the bottom of my visa state that I can stay until the 17th of August, however the duration of stay listed is 30 days. I entered on the 18th of July, 30 days stay counted from the day of entry is the 16th of August. Do I have to leave on the 16th or 17th?

Is it possible that the staff made a mistake in calculating the duration of stay? or are there circumstances when visa staff will allow a person to stay for a period of time isn't typical for Chinese visa's, ie in this case 31 days?
