It is not along the Silk Road.
The Nadam Fair is held every July or August. So July is preferable than June for a visit.
I pesonally think there is no much to see in that region compared with other destinations in China and 2 weeks of staying there is too much long. Maybe you can spare some time for other places, like the capita city Beijing, ancient city Xian, or Xinjiang, which is along Silk Road.
If staying in at least 4-star hotels, you need to stay in city areas. But the place is famous for grassland, where there is no star hotes. But staying in a tent is also a unique experience.
The region is not reachable by bullet train yet. Only ordinary train, flight and long-distance bus are available.
The place is renowed for grassland, so you are advised to visit one of them, maybe Xilingol Grassland, or Gegentala Grassland. The famous cussines include Roasted whole sheep, boiled mutton eaten with hands, cheese, milk curd, ad salty milk tea.
