About:Chinese Permanent Residence Permit

Can I work in China without jeopardizing the family-based residence permit?

I lived and worked in China for six years and married a Shanghai girl. I then got a "family" permanent residence permit for three-years that expires in October 2016. Will a working permit - either a Z type as a foreign expert or as a director/consultant to an enterprise jeopardize the residence permit?

Ed, applying for a work permit or foreign expert would not invalidate your current residence permit. You should change your Q1 type to a Z type first and then renew your residence permit. The length of the renewed residence permit depends on the labour contract you sign with the employer.
