Getting off at an earlier station?

I read that there are also ticket checks upon exiting a railway station, is that correct? Would I encounter a problem if I get off at an earlier stop than the one to where I have a ticket? I ask this because I have bought tickets from Fuling to Wuhan, but it may be handier for me to get off at Hankou, one stop before Wuhan. Would that be a problem? Thanks!

You can get off during halfway as long as you hold a ticket for longer trip. But once you get off, the unused part will become invalid.
