Do I need to register at the police station?

Hi, I will be arriving from London and continuing to Auckland. I have a 12 hour stop in Shanghai and would like to leave the airport to see the city while I am there.

Since you just transit in Shanghai for 12 hours, I don't think you need to register at the police station.
