Plastic perler bead figure

We have a Chinese exchange student staying with us for a few weeks. Our granddaughter made a small box for him from perler beads as a gift. He said he couldn't accept because he couldn't take plastic on the plane back to China. Can anyone clarify?

Jlr, I didn't hear of this. But I don't think a small box made of perler beads can cause any problem at the security checks.
