Getting a Chinese Visa in Tokyo

Hi there, I plan on visiting Tokyo for one week at the end of this month. At the moment, I am living in PRC on a student X type with only single entry and I need to return to China(it is valid until August this year). Do you know if I would have any problems getting a tourist type to re-enter (I imagine they would cancel the student type)? Also, I heard, they would require a return air ticket as proof that I was leaving again? Could you confirm whether this is true or not? Any information about my situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, matt

Matt, you can apply for a L type in Japan. Since you hold a single entry X type, it won't be valid after you exit. For applying L type, you don't have to provide the air ticket that you get back to Japan. The air ticket just shows that you exit after your duration of stay. Also, hotel reservation is required.

Hi Mary, thanks so much for your reply, I wonder if you know whether it is possible to get a 60 day tourist visa or if they are only likely to issue a 30 day one? And, just so I get your meaning, I have to provide some kind of air ticket to prove I am leaving China after my stay? Thanks, and sorry to bother you again:)

Matt, I suppose you mean duration of stay, right? Usually, they just give 30 days duration of stay. However, you can make the extension at the local entry and exit management bureau to acquire another 30 days. Yes, you need to book an air ticket for exiting mainland when you submit your application.

hey matt. I am in the exact same situation as you! I was wondering wether it went ok and wether you obtained the 60 day visa. If not is it easy to apply for an extension of stay back in china?
