Is passenger's passport required to buy the tickets for train?

We will arrive to Shanghai Pudong Airport on 16 July 2015. We have arranged to use rail for going to Hefei, same day. If we find a person in china who can buy ticket for us now, is it required he has our passports? As a alternative case, if we want buy the tickets from Iran via travelchinaguide website, is there any limitation?

If you buy it on spot, you need to have the passport. If you book online via a agent like this website, you can offer the passport copy for online booking.
