About:Telephone & Cellphone in China

Can I buy a SIM card to use in my iPhone 6, just as a tourist?

I will arrive on 6 July in Xian and stay in 3 different cities for 3 weeks. I would like to use my iPhone 6 in China. I have a German O2 contract - the phone is unlocked. Can I just buy a SIM card at the airport when I arrive, put it in my phone and use it for internet as normal? Many thanks for your advice. If yes, what do I ask for (it would help if you could write it in Chinese so I can copy and paste...)

Shameem, does your iphone support WCDMA? If so, you can try to buy a sim card provided by China Unicom. And I do not suggest you buy the simcard at the airport. You can find China Unicom offices in the city and then buy a sim-card from there. If you plan to use internet access frequently, then you should buy a package that includes data packages.

You can tell the saleman "Ni Hao, Wo Xiang Ban Yi Zhang Shou Ji Ka. Wo Zhu Yao Yong Lai Shang Wang." However, you should understand that data package works in mainland China. If you plan to use it in HK, Macau and Taiwan, the cost will be very higher. You need to buy local sim-card if you go to these three places.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not sure if my phone supports this. It's a new iPhone 6. I hope I can pronounce all that correctly ;-)
