About:Southern Mosque

I am an Australian man getting married to a Chinese national lady in China.

What is the process I need to follow to have the consulate endorse my Single Status Certificate (from the NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages) so that it will be recognised in PRC. I assume it will also need to be translated by the consulate into Chinese and stamped as an official Chinese government document.

Where do I need to go? who do I need to see? how long will it take to process? Do I need an appointment?

So you already have your single status certificate authenticated by Chinese consulate, right? Then you needn't ask the consulate to translate them into Chinese. When you arrive in your partner's city in mainland, you just need to go to local notary office to have your documents notarized. The office can recommend you a qualified translation company to do the translation.

Hi Amy. No. I just have the Single Status Certificate. It has not been authenticated, endorsed, notarized or anything by the Chinese government. I have been told this needs to be done at/ by the PRC Consulate in Sydney, and also translated into Chinese to take to my fiancee's home town in China to get the marriage certificate.

Then you should have your certificate authenticated by Chinese consulate first. Before you go there, you need to notarize it at your notary office and get it certified by your Ministry of Foreign Affairs if necessary. After have it authenticated, then you can bring it into PRC. After you arrive, you need go to local Chinese notary office to have it notarized again. There they require you to translate it into Chinese. Don't worry. They can recommend you qualified translation companies.
