is there a possibility to go by train from guilin to zhangjiajie or a place nearby? thank you!

Maybe you can try to connect at the halfway. From Guilin to Huaihua first and then Huaihua to Zhangjiajie.0

You could take the train from Guilin to Changsha, and then a bus from Changsha to Zhangjiajie. The bus from Changsha is MUCH faster and cheaper than the train1
