7 days no visa required??

Some Chinese people have informed me ( as an Australian passport holder) I can fly to Hong Kong and then go to Guangzhou and stay there for 7 days without needing an entry permit. Then return to Hong Kong is that true? Or is it only 72 hours I can stay there?

Greg, you are holding an Australian passport, yes? If yes, you cannot go to Guangzhou for seven days without the entry permit. If you want to make use of the 72-hour free transit in Guangzhou, you cannot fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and directly back to Hong Kong. This route is not eligible. You have to go to a third country or region.

Yes, Australian Passport holder. I was going to travel by rail From Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return to HK by rail, then fly back to Australia.

I was wondering what countries are the visa free ones?

1. Is it a necessary to go through an immigration check when we take the Guangzhou – HK through-train? If so where and how?
Yes. Just show your passports and entry permits at Guangzhou East (or Dongguan). Foreign passport holders are required to fill out an arrival form at Hung Hom Railway Station.
