For the high speeds like D, G and C types, they may not allowed for that. But possible for other normal slow types like T, K, and Z types. Also there is a limitation for the alcohol, like 200ml I think. For the bottled alcohol drink, maybe a bottle or 2 can be acceptable.

Hi, thank you very much!

Also whilst I am here, I am looking to book the D321 from Beijing to Shanghai, they have second class seats as an option but they say they are not normal seats but are transformed bottom berths of soft sleepers. Is this ok for a 12 hour journey?

It is really hard to say if it is good or not. It mainly depends on who you seat with or how many people in your cabin. If very few people in your cabin, like only 3 or 4, you may even lucky enough to have the whole lower bed for sleep. If full booked, you just seat on one lower beds with other 2 people for 12 hours. It may not be a very happy trip then because sitting on beds is not as comfortable as the usual seats.

The adjoining seats usualy depends on the availability. You can inform your agane (if you book from a agent) about this issue ans ask them to do it for you. But to mkae sure you book early enough if you are a large group to avoid the tickets being sold out.

This is all our first time to China. We are visiting Shanghai, Beijing and Xian after doing a trek for 9 days on the wall. Any tips or advice?

If you are a big group, arrive the station early enough and leave more time between all the transfer. Always have some small amount cash with you, credit card cannot work for some restaurant, market, shops. Finally take care of your belongings especially in railway station and never trust any "warm-hearted" people with food or drinks.
