M, F, or Tourist Visa? Please help ASAP!

Hi, I'm a student going to China for an internship for 10 weeks. It's partly educational since part of it is cultural immersion and research, but business in the since that I'll be interning at an actual business. The invite letter states that I'll be helping on a company project in research. Should I apply for an M or F type? I also think one of my coworkers got denied an application for an F visa with the same letter however.

I'm planning on flying on June 1 and already booked tickets - I tried applying for a tourist type since it seemed easier but I don't have a hotel reservation under my name. It's under one of the manager's names at the company I'll be interning at - would that be okay? I also need help asap since the next open date for the embassy will be on 5/26... Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Daniel, will you be paid? If so, you should apply for a Z type instead of M, F or L. If you are not paid, then you should apply for the F type.

Hi Dick - what about if I'm receiving a stipend from my university just to cover the airfare there? I also will be having my living expenses paid for. Does that change anything? Thanks so much for the advice!

Daniel, it's fine to get an F type in your situation. However, I see someone who is in the same shoes but his F type application was rejected. I suggest you consult this with the consular officer before submitting the application.
