Is it possible to take in the scenery and walk to the slide way instead of getting the cable car?

Then get the slide way back on the return leg of the journey? We will be arriving by public transport. My friend and I are visiting in 2 weeks.

Yes, you can just climb the wall and buy a single slide-way trip for getting down.
