Q2 visa for more than 180 days

I am having a Q2 type, but planning to stay in China more than 180 days. Do I have to get a Q1 type, or I can just simply renew with my Q2 in China? Thanks.

You can first try to get the current Q2 type extended at the exit & entry administration bureau. If the extension applicaton is turned down, you should exit to apply for a Q1 type.
