Engaging in educational activities while my main purpose remains as staying with my family under Q1

I'm now on a Q1 family reunion type (for that last 3-years). My main purpose of being here China is of course still staying with my family. I know a person should always choose a visa/residence permit based on his/her main purpose of staying in China. I was wondering if now that I'm with my Q1 family reunion type in China I can still engage in some educational activities or not? Of course that's not my main intention of being here in China and it remains as staying with my family but I'd like to use my time in useful way. Just to mentioned that I don't like to go for a X type for some reason and I'd like to keep my family reunion status anyhow. Is there a way for that?
