Can a China citizen buy a ticket online with their passport as verification?

I would like to purchase bullet rail tickets in advance for trips between Shanghai and Beijing. In our group are 2 Chinese citizens. Can they use their passport for verification purposes? I can submit the passport information (in English) during the booking but I am worried there will be an issue during ticket collection or during boarding.
