About:National Holidays in China

I am planning to teach in China starting in August 2015.

I wondered if the National Day holiday are days when teachers and students wouldn't have school for the whole week. I wonder this because I am looking for a good time to have my spouse visit me after I leave.

Thank you!

Yes, teachers and students needn't have school for that week. You can have your spouse visit you at that moment. However, one thing you should have in mind is that every tourist place is swarmed with tourists, especially those popular tourist destinations. It isn't a good time to travel if you don't like the crowd.

Thank you! My main concern was whether or now I would have the days off without having to request them. We would most likely meet somewhere outside of the mainland (Indonesia, the Philippians, etc.) will these places typically be crowded as well?

Brooke, places outside of mainland China (except for Hong Kong and Macau) are usually not crowded. By the way, I think you'd better consult with your school in advance if any overtime work is needed during National Day Holiday. You know, those students in the third year of their middle school or senior high school might be required to go to school during the holidays.
